Gallery Prize

Gallery Prize

The prize
In its quest to recognize excellence, Gallery magazine is launching an annual prize to honor artwork exhibited in Lebanon. The first round will be for works showcased in 2020.

The magazine
Gallery magazine is a quarterly publication dedicated to fine arts in Lebanon. It was first published in the autumn of 2018. To date, it has published eight issues. The magazine targets readers who are interested in art, not just experts and aficionados, but especially those wanting to know more. The magazine covers all aspects of the fine art ecosystem, looking at modern as well as contemporary artists and their work. The magazine has an extensive section covering exhibitions in all sorts of venues including museums, art venues, and galleries. It is interested in established artists as well as confirmed emerging talent. Gallery has gained a firm reputation for its comprehensive and sober writings, and is being read by a large number of those involved or interested in art in Lebanon.

Nominations
Eligible artists can be local or from abroad, as long as their work was exhibited or executed in Lebanon, or on a Lebanon-centric digital platform. Works can be nominated by anyone, including self-nominations by artists, galleries, art venues, art critics, and the public at large.

Jury

An independent jury will be formed each year to set judging criteria, evaluate the work, and declare the winners. The magazine does not normally participate in grading the works. Its role is that of an organizer.

Rico Franses - Art specialist, university professor, former director of the AUB collection
