Rising to a commanding height of two and a half meters, ‘Awakening’ is a figure of bronze beckons with an enigmatic aura. The captivating sculpture serves as a vessel of symbolism, an ode to the intricacies of human existence, and a narrative of self-discovery unfurled in three-dimensional form.
The first attraction is the sculpture’s meticulously crafted head—a classic representation that, as Tokaltian explains, metaphorically embodies the brain. Within this form, an homage resonates—an ode to the collective consciousness, a repository of wisdom distilled from nature’s wonders and the rich fabric of human experiences. But it is the body, draped in bronzed slabs, that unveils the work’s most poignant narrative. A visual metaphor, the body speaks volumes of humanity’s perpetual journey—a representation of the unfulfilled potential that resides within. Each curve and contour yearns to break free from its bronzed cocoon, an ascent towards enlightenment palpable with every twist. The slabs, with their upward burst akin to a hand, and their downward trajectory hinting at the rest of the form, are anchored and empowered by the base.
The figure’s intriguing closed eyes, shrouded by a fabric-like layer of bronze, houses the heart of its narrative. The concealed orbs, in their shuttered state, extend a silent invitation—a call to introspection. A summons to peel away the layers of distraction, to delve into the recesses within. Tokaltian explains: “To unearth our authentic human essence, our gaze must turn inward—a journey of contemplation and learning. It’s the awakening, the realization, the fusion with the cosmos. Perhaps, in due course, we shall indeed become fully realized human beings.”
